Firwood High School – Bolton

This project was a 2.8-million-pound extension to a special needs school in Bolton.

The site presented extensive logistics difficulties to maintain the normal school run, children in wheelchairs needing permanent access through the works to enter the existing school.

The work took place in various phases due to the need to minimize the disruption to the pupils with the mental wellbeing in mind.

Special measures where put in place to reduce noises and secure the work due to the special need of the school.

  • Foul & surface water drainage, including attenuation.
  • Reinforced foundation installation.
  • Reinforced ground floor slab
  • Strickler infrastructure installation
  • Gabion wall installation.
  • Car park construction.
  • MUGA construction.
  • Kerbing, edging and block paving installation.
  • Electric gate foundations.
  • Ducting infrastructure.

Delivery to programme and budget and works phasing

The project took longer than expected due to the different phases of work planed between the school and the main contractor F Parkinson. The project was delivered on a remeasurable bill of quantity.
