Construction of a mining memorial in concrete, block natural stone sheaved on a steel sculpture  

Project scale and detail of works undertaken.

Installation of a bespoke memorial to celebrate the work and dedication the mine works of Pontefract sacrificed at the Price of Wale colliery. This colliery was one of the last mines to cease operations in 2002. The contract was released under a JCT minor works contract for a duration of 8 weeks and a £30,000.00 for our  client Harworth Estates.

J&P’s Scope of works was to act as Principal Contractor to manage, construct and coordinate the installation of the monument. The monument is made up of a concrete foundation, blockwork inner, dressed natural stone cladding and a steel sculpture sculpted by one of the retired minors. The surround areas are finished in natural stone cobles. Work also included providing an electrical supply to power lighting that will illuminate the monument.

  • Cobble installation.
  • Ducting and electrical installations.

Delivery to programme and budget and works phasing.

Our 8 week programme suffered delay due to the sculpture taking longer than anticipated. However, this was not to the detriment of the client. The works were delivered on budget.
